Skills Society 2022 Virtual Annual General Meeting

Skills Society’s 41st AGM!

Good Enough Isn’t Enough

Never settling – striving for the ‘good life’

You are invited to our 2022 Virtual Annual General Meeting taking place on Monday, June 27th via Zoom from 6:00-8:00pm. As best we can, using an online platform, we will ‘come together’ with the people we serve, their families and friends, and supporters of Skills to check in and reflect on the year that’s gone by. The formal business portion of the event will take place from 6:00-7:00pm followed by a more informal program highlighting key moments and stories from the past year. We appreciate your support, patience, and understanding as we’ve had to offer our AGM online – we look forward to gathering once again – and celebrating – when it is safe to do so. Please see additional details below. We hope you can join us online!

The theme for our AGM is partially about not settling for just good-enough as we come out of the pandemic. But the theme is also something we think is a powerful call to action that should underlie all of our collective work, vision, values, thrive in five, and deep citizenship model that underpins our support of people. When we reflect on what the energies are that truly push us forward in supporting the good life for people, it’s when everyone in our Skills community from front line to the board, have a deep conviction that no one should settle for people with disabilities lives just being ok, or ‘good enough’. We believe anyone can be a leader and the leaders who make a difference are the ones who don’t settle and strive against all odds and barriers to insist on figuring out how to support people with disabilities to have good lives. We are proud to present in the report, reflections on what the good life can mean, and stories of not giving up or settling when barriers and “ya buts” arise. We hope that as we all read the forthcoming annual report and stories, we all come away with conviction to not settle, and keep working together to figure out how to keep supporting people to have good lives everyday.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never used Zoom before…help!

If you are new to Zoom check out this handy video about how to join a meeting. It goes over how to join and the system requirements you need to participate.

Do I need to purchase a membership to become a voting member?

In light of COVID-19 and moving the AGM to an online format, we have waived the membership fee this year. If you wish to become a member so you can vote during the AGM please email linda@skillssociety.ca.

How will voting work?

At each point where a vote is required, there will be a call for all voting members “in favor”. If a voting member “opposes” or “obstains” they will indicate so in the chat box.

A reminder that only those individuals with a membership can vote. Employees of Skills Society are not entitled to be members and therefore cannot vote.

*Only those joining by computer or joining by phone using the Zoom App will be able to vote. If you are a voting member and wish to vote during the meeting please do NOT join by calling in.

How will passing motions work?

When a motion is made, the moderator will have designated board members to indicate “first” and “second” for the motion.

I have a question about one of the motions…how do I ask it?

If you have a question about one of the motions during the meeting you can type your question in the chat function. We will have someone monitoring and moderating the chat box and they will notify the speaker when a question arises. To allow the meeting to progress, we ask that you only ask questions related to the motion being discussed in the chat box and save all other questions for after the meeting.
