Skills Society Summer Picnic 2025

On August 6th, the Skills Society community gathered at Laurier Park for our annual summer picnic. After much prep work, anticipation, and some worry about an impending thunderstorm, the event went off splendidly with clear skies and no storms.

It was so nice to catch up with community members, enjoy the day’s activities, and celebrate together. We had a BBQ, face painting, glitter tattoos, and lawn games. We were also lucky to have the event DJed by Skills community member, Dave, and to welcome the CommuniTEA van, serving up cold drinks and great vibes.

New this year, community members roamed the park snapping photos, with the option for folks to wear leis and hold fun beach themed signs for their pictures. It was a perfect match for the heat of the day.

Events like these are only possible thanks to the dedication and support of many individuals. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to:

  • ATCO for their generous donation of canopies that kept us comfortable throughout the day.

  • CommuniTEA Van for their wonderful community-building activities and fun button-making station.

  • DJ Dave who kept the atmosphere lively with rocking tunes.

  • Edmonton Oil Kings for the generous donation of doorprizes.

  • Our incredible hosts and volunteers who worked tirelessly to organize, set up, and ensure the event ran smoothly.

A huge thank you to all the people we serve, employees, and guests who joined us and contributed to making this picnic a memorable one. Your participation and enthusiasm are what make these gatherings so special. We can't wait to see everyone again at next year's picnic!
